Facebook Smartwatch with Two Built-In Cameras, a heart rate monitor for next summer

Facebook Smart Watch

Facebook Smartwatch is the first smartwatch on which Facebook is working, which the company hasn’t confirmed openly but currently plans to launch next summer. The Verge has learned that the device will feature a display with two built-in cameras that can be detached from the wrist for capturing pictures and videos and also can be shared across Facebook’s suite of apps, incl. Instagram, and WhatsApp.

For, last several months Facebook has been working on a new Facebook Smartwatch. The unveiled new details about the device will compete with the Apple watch.

A camera on the front of the watch’s display will be primarily for video calls, while a 1080p, auto-focus camera at the back can be used for capturing photos when detached from the stainless steel watch frame.

Facebook is knocking other companies to create accessories that can be attached to the camera hub portion for things like backpacks. Facebook is expecting that people will use Facebook Smartwatch in the similar way that phones are used now to build more consumer devices that circumvent the two dominant smartphone platform creators who are largely controlling Facebook’s ability to reach people i.e. Apple and Google.

Earlier rumors about the device suggested it will possess a cellular connection that does not require a smartphone. And wearers will be able to send messages via Facebook services like Messenger and WhatsApp. It’s also expected to run a custom version of Android and have built-in health tracking features like a heart rate monitor.

Facebook is operating with the top wireless carriers in the US for  LTE connectivity support in the watch, which means it doesn’t require to be paired with a phone to work. And sell it in their shops for which the people are familiar. The watch will come in three colors-  white, black, and gold. Initially, Facebook expects to sell volume in the low six figures which is a tiny sliver of the overall smartwatch market. According to Counterpoint Research, 34 million watches were sold by Apple last year in comparison.

Andrew Bosworth (Facebook’s vice president of augmented and virtual reality) responded to the latest report on Twitter. Even though he didn’t confirm plans to release a smartwatch, he didn’t completely deny the details either.

Facebook Smartwatch Price and Release

The first version of the Facebook Smartwatch aims to release in the summer of 2022, and its price could be around $400(which might change). Facebook has already started working on second and third generations for successive years. While it’s unlikely, as the device has yet to enter mass production or even to get an official name, Facebook could also scrap the watch altogether.
