Samsung has officially decreased the price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 in Nepal. With the unpacked event scheduled for August 11 where Samsung will be announcing its latest Z flip 2 and Fold 3, the older generation Z Fold 2 has seen a huge price cut. Recently, it saw a price cut of Rs. 40,000.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Overview

The original Galaxy Fold was a kind of experiment in the field of foldable phones. The idea was innovative however the phone faced a lot of issues related to durability. Its launch was postponed many times because Samsung was not able to solve all the problems. Samsung will probably avoid those situations with its successor.

As you noticed, The company has changed the naming scheme in order to include Fold 2 in the Z series. The Z series will be Samsung’s listing of foldable smartphones. They already have two devices under the Z lineup – Z Flip and  Z Flip 5G. So, basically, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 has had two devices to take inspiration from and it looks like they have done a very good job.

Design and Display

From its predecessor, the Galaxy Fold, there is a remarkable change in the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. The outer screen flaunts a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display. It supports HDR10+ even though the refresh rate is 60Hz only. However, it has a tall aspect ratio of 25:9 and has a punch hole for a selfie camera of 10MP.

Likewise, the size of the inner display has been enlarged too. It is a 7.6-inch display now in comparison to the 7.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display panel of the Galaxy Fold. It has a  120Hz refresh rate and also supports HDR10+. Impressively, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 has the variable refresh rate tech from the Note 20 Ultra. The display can dynamically adjust the refresh rate between 11Hz & 120Hz depending upon the content on the screen.

Sadly, the 120Hz experience is only present on the main 7.6-inch display, and not on the 6.2-inch cover display. In terms of protection, the cover display is improved by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus while the rear panel makes do with its predecessor – the Gorilla Glass 6.

UTG to the rescue

The bezels are slim and rather than a notch, there’s a punch-hole that has the selfie camera. Moreover, the Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) replaced the polymer glass of the Galaxy Fold. Likewise, the display structure has been modified too. It has the Under Metal Cushion now.

When the screen is folded, a gap is visible and it is necessary for the UTG to fold over. Additionally, the gap also makes it simpler for the smartphone to open. Also, the hinge on the device comes with the same flex mode feature as the Galaxy Z Flip.

The phone can stick in place between 75 to 115 degrees with the new CAM technology. There’s also the “sweeper” to sweep away dirt from getting into the hinge and damaging this perfect piece of hardware.

Here, Users also get an option to customize the hinge color too. Unfortunately, this feature will be available to certain regions only. Other users will have to do with the offered Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black color. For Biometrics, the fingerprint sensor is no longer under the display but it is side-mounted and doubles up as the power button. And the Bixby button is also absent here.

Performance and Memory

Powering the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the last-gen Snapdragon 865+ with 12GB of RAM. Samsung is initiating a bundle of new features such as “App Continuity”, making use of the larger unfolded display. On the software side, the device boosts Samsung’s own One UI.

Here, the customers now will be able to perfectly transition between screens while ongoing with the apps they were formerly running. Another amazing feature is called “App Pair” in which users can easily open multiple apps including the main display with a single shortcut.

This is somewhat similar to what Asus with its ZenBook Duo or Microsoft did with the Surface Duo series of laptops. Similar to the Note 20 Ultra, the Z Fold 2 also has Ultra-Wideband (UWB) tech for quick data transfer among devices.

Camera

On the rear, the device will flaunt a triple camera setup. Inside the rectangular module, three cameras are arranged vertically along with an LED flash. The module has a remarkable bump compared to the rear surface.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2’s rear camera setup comes with a 12MP primary, 12MP telephoto, and 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. For selfie cameras and video calls, there are two – a 10MP sensor on the main display, and the identical lens on the smaller cover display. Talking about the videos, the device supports 4k 30fps and 4k 60fps recording at 16:9 and 21:9 aspect ratios.
