Design & Display

There is a clear attempt to minimize bezels on both phones. There is a clear difference in the rear camera setup of the two phones. Mi 10’s rear camera is placed at the left corner of the phone, while One Plus 8’s rear camera is placed at the center. But, I personally don’t look at the back of the phone when talking about the aesthetics of the phone. The lack of bezel at the side in Mi 10 makes a better-looking phone in my eyes.

Mi 10 has a slightly bigger 6.67 inches Super AMOLED display compared to the One Plus 8’s 6.55 inches fluid AMOLED display. The 1080 X 2400 Pixels ( 402 PPI density) resolution in the Oneplus 8 is better than Mi 10’s 1080 X 2340 Pixels. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects both phones.

Both phones have a 90 Hz refresh rate. The 1100 nits maximum brightness Oneplus 8 is significantly better than the Mi 10’s 800 nits maximum brightness.

Performance

Any difference between these two phones based on their performance is minimal as both the phones use the new Snapdragon 865 chipset. Both are available from 8GB to 12GB of RAM. As expected from flagship phones, the phones are blazing fast and even the most intense games graphically run smoothly. Both  Mi 10 and Oneplus 8 are available with either 128 GB or 256 GB variant.

A bigger differentiator, however, is the software. Users get MIUI 11 based on Android 10 when purchasing the Mi 10. This is a highly personalized take on Android, which features many pre-installed apps.

OnePlus 8 uses Oxygen OS. For a cleaner take on android, you have to buy Oneplus 8. The operating systems are very similar except for some useful additions.

Despite Mi 10 having a more powerful 4780 mAH battery, both phones’ battery life is very similar. 30W fast charging is available on both phones.

Camera

Its top-of-the-line 108MP sensor is the major selling point of the Mi 10. For low-light imaging, the sensor bins down to 27MP and allows better sensitivity. On the other hand, the OnePlus 8 sticks to 48MP sensors.

Between the Mi 10 and the OnePlus 8, the basic camera configuration is fairly consistent. Both feature 2MP macro cameras, as well as 13MP on the Mi 10 and 16MP on the OnePlus 8 ultra-wide sensors. The Mi 10 has a 2MP depth sensor as well.

However, the OnePlus 8 Pro, with a dedicated 8MP telephoto lens that offers 3x zoom, takes things up a notch. It also bumps up the ultra-wide lens resolution to 48MP. Because of its ability to see through clothing, the phone’s 5MP color filter was recently disabled.
